But, my blog is not just about the Civil Rights Movement, I will also talk about how Abraham Lincoln was involved in the Civil Rights Movement!  This is really important to me because some of my friends are African-American! And, I would like to give credit to the websites who gave me this information and pictures, so I will have the links at the end of the pictures!
But here is the website for the "Hi!" at the top! So, anyways... ENJOY!!  :D :D (http://commentgraphics.multiply.com/photos/album/2584/Glitter_GraphicsText_3)

                Civil Rights Movement!

Well, the Civil Rights Movement was when many African- Americans who wanted rights and didn't believe that they were treated they way that they should have been, did peaceful protests by getting in big crowds and hold up signs or screaming out what they want! Some people like Martin Luther King Jr. had gatherings when they would have supporters there to listen to his speeches

People also protested for the end of slavery and the way that people looked, talked, and thought about them. They wanted to be treated like a white person was. They wanted to sit in the front of the bus, they wanted to sit in the front of the restaurant, and they wanted to be in the same schools as whites! I am glad that they did this, they did not deserve to have awful quality stuff while the whites got better and more awesome quality stuff!

African-Americans also were owned by whites. I really don't know what was going on in peoples minds back then , but really.... people owned people! African - American are not pets! They did NOT deserve to be owned, whipped, bossed around, and be treated like trash! Aren't you glad that slavery ended?!?

                      Abraham Lincoln!!
Well, Abraham Lincoln was our president during the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement! As you know, Mr. Lincoln was the 16th president and his nick-name was " Honest Abe ". But, we aren't talking about his life-story we are gonna talk about how he was involved in this war!

Well, President Lincoln was getting lots of assassination treats during the Civil War, mostly the Southerners were giving these treats because the south was mostly a Democrat area and he was Republican. During that time the south tried to secede (Which means to leave the nation of the U.S.) and become their own country, but Mr. Lincoln didn't want that to happen so he announced the Pro-Union policy which did not allow the southern states to secede.

Then, on January 1, 1863 the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. This was Mr. Lincoln's declaration of freedom for all slaves in areas of the Confederacy, not under Union control. But the south didn't like this because if the North won the Civil War, the south would have to let all slaves free. Speaking of the Civil War, on November 19, 1863 Mr. Lincoln gave his very famous Gettysburg Address, which he dedicated to the Union Solders who died. Then he ordered the living solders to finish the war that the dead started!

My
Opinion: I think that what Abraham Lincoln was so brave, honest, and a great man!! I could never do what he did! I can't believe that he kept our country together and won the Civil War! If it weren't for him, we might be in a different country than the north, you see this was very important! I never new what the Civil War was until now! And now I know it is extremely important, seriously he ended slavery, won the Civil War, kept the country together, and dealt with all the protests and president business He was such a good man!!

HEY! Did I forget something!? Oh yeah! I need to answer 2 questions for you about the 4-8 grade field trip that we went on last Monday! So, the questions are:
What did I learn? What did I like?

Question 1. What did I learn?
Answer: Well, I mostly learned about the Civil War and how slavery was like. We watched a little, short play about a slave owners wife, while she talked about how her slave ran away.
She told us that she doesn't want her husband to know this because slaves would get whipped if the slave ran away and was found, but she liked her slave and didn't want this to happen to the slave.

We also learned how a solders life was like during the war. Like, we did a game where you got a clip-board and a spinner. Through out the game you could lose or gain life and morale points! The game was based on choices and luck! I ended up being alive and sane!

Question 2. What did I like?
Answer: What I really liked was when we played the game on the solders! Let me explain the game a little more than I did in the last paragraph. So, we got a clip-board that was about a solder, which could have been a Union solder or a Confederate solder, and I got a Union solder. Then it said how much money you had in your pocket, how much morale and life points you had, your reason why you joined the Army and other information about your person. So, like I said I was alive and sane, plus my side won! :D :D :D
